Greetings Adventurer, to buy heirlooms as an Alliance player simply go to Ironforge, Hall of Explorers and purchase Heirlooms from Krom Stoutarm. To buy heirlooms as a Horde player get on top of the gates of Orgrimmar and find “Estelle Gendry”. These vendors will sell your Heirloom equipment, be warned: Heirlooms are expensive!

Why buy Heirlooms in WoW?

I see you are in search of knowledge and power. Fear not for you shall be accompanied on this quest, for today we are delving into Heirlooms in World of Warcraft. Where to buy them, and how much they cost.

As we quest across Azeroth we slay monsters and assist the citizens of various towns and villages. We are often rewarded with gear that we can equip or a few gold coins.

However, sometimes we gain experience so quickly that we can rapidly outgrow these items and have to purchase new gear. However Heirlooms stop this need for new gear.

Where are guild Heirloom vendors?

The head, back and leg pieces are purchased from the guild vendor in your main faction city.
Do note that we need to be in a guild before we will see any items the guild vendor sells. Some items may also be locked behind a guild reputation.

Horde Heirloom Guild Vendor

For Horde it is Goram, in the Valley of Strength in Orgrimmar.

Alliance Heirloom Guild Vendor

For Alliance this is Shay Pressler inside the Stormwind Visitors Center.

Where is the Horde Heirloom Vendors? (Solved)

The other items that can be bought are, Shoulder; Chest; Neck; Shield; Trinket; Off Hand; 1 Handed Weapons and 2 Handed Weapons.

Heirloom upgrades for armor & weapons can also be bought here.

If we are playing Horde, the vendor is easy to find, just fly up on top of the gates of Orgrimmar and we will find Estelle Gendry, the Heirloom Curator.

Where is the Alliance Heirloom Vendors? (Solved)

If we are playing Alliance however, we need to go on a short journey to Iron Forge.
The easiest way for us to get there is via the Deeprun Tram that travels between StormWind and Iron Forge. The entrance to which we can find in the Dwarven District.

We may have to wait for it, but we hop on the Tram and it will take us to Iron Forge where we will emerge in Tinker town. From there, we head to the right up to the Hall of Explorers and speak to Krom Stoutarm, the Heirloom Curator.

Tips when buying Heirlooms in WoW (Explained)

It’s important for us to remember that we need to purchase the correct armor type when purchasing the Heirlooms. Each class uses different armor types: Cloth, Leather, Mail and Plate. Purchase the correct armor type for your character.

The beauty of heirlooms is that once you have them, they can be equipped on any character as they are account bound items that are put into your inventory from the heirloom tab. Even if you drop them or misplace them, you can just get it again.

When purchased an heirloom item will get your character from level 1 and the items will level up with your characters all the way to level 29. If we want the heirlooms to level higher than level 29, we will need to upgrade them.

WoW how to Upgrade Heirlooms (Explained)

To upgrade our heirlooms, we will need to purchase the various heirloom upgrades and we then will apply them to the heirloom weapon or armor in order to increase their item level potential.

To upgrade your heirloom items from ilvl 29 through to ilvl 49 you can find the purchasable heirloom upgrades from your respective faction heirloom vendors (Krout in Ironforge & Estelle in Orgrimmar).

Below are the names of each upgrade item and the new level that your heirloom weapon will be.

  • Ancient Heirloom Scabbard – Item Level 35
  • Timeworn Heirloom Scabbard – Item Level 40
  • Weathered Heirloom Scabbard – Item Level 45
  • Battle-Hardened Heirloom Scabbard – Item Level 50
  • Eternal Heirloom Scabbard – Item Level 60

Any heirloom that is not a weapon, can be upgraded using the various Armor casing upgrade items.

Below are the names of each upgrade item and the new level that your heirloom weapon will be.

  • Ancient Heirloom Armor Casing New Item Level 35.
  • Timeworn Heirloom Armor Casing New Item Level 40.
  • Weathered Heirloom Armor Casing New Item Level 45.
  • Battle-Hardened Heirloom Armor Casing New Item Level 50.
  • Eternal Heirloom Armor Casing New Item Level 60.

Remember that Heirlooms are treated as an investment into your account and time spent leveling. Heirlooms are account bound so once they are purchased and upgraded, ANY character on our account will have access to the heirlooms.

To check our Heirlooms, we press Shift+P and select the Heirlooms tab. In this screen, we can see which heirlooms we have and what their current upgrade level is. In order to put a desired Heirloom into our inventory, we simply right click on it and then we can equip it from there.

If our character level is lower than the Heirloom level, the Heirloom will then match our characters’ level. If our character level is higher than the Heirloom level, we can still equip it, but it wont give us many benefits as there will be better gear for us to obtain through our adventures.

Where are the rest of the Heirlooms? (Explained)

As a keen eyed adventurer I know that many will have noticed that we cannot purchase Heirlooms for feet; wrists; waist; hands and rings so unfortunately for those item slots, we will either have to find loot as we quest through Azeroth or purchase from Vendors or the Auction House.

Heirloom Rings:

  1. There are Heirloom rings which can be gained from completing activities in World of Warcraft. Sadly we cannot purchase them. We can obtain the rings through shipyard missions in our Warlords of Dreanor Garrison.
  2. If we want to be safer and not have to slay more monsters, we could have a nice relaxing day fishing in Booty Bay and attempt to win the Fishing Festival that occurs every week.

The last piece of information that may prove useful to us, is that in Oribos, in Shadowlands, in the Ring of Transference, next to the Flight Master, is an NPC named Au’ Dara.

This NPC also sells the 2 most expensive upgrade items for Heirlooms, the Eternal Heirloom Armor Casing for gear and the Eternal Heirloom Scabbard for weapons.

Final Thoughts – WoW Heirloom Guide

Dearest Adventurers Your quest in learning about Heirlooms and how much they cost is complete. We advise that you only start to purchase your heirlooms if you can definitely afford to. Having an army of alts with full heirloom sets, can be extremely expensive.

    Hi m8.

thanks for the great guide. i am on a allt and have lower heirloom gear(lvl35)
1 question though in this guide it does not say where you upgrade your heirloom gear from beginning to lvl 50 you did write where you can get the upgrade from lvl50 to lvl60 though. so maybe you can add the location of the lesser upgrades aswell to the guide that would be awesome 😀

    thanks for the great work
