Patch 10.1.7 Overview
Patch 10.1.7 has brought a lot of new content to explore and enjoy. There are new Outdoor World content and several new storylines to work through, along with plenty of new ways to Gear Up and level up. In this patch, there are some quests that you definitely want to get done, and some specific rewards you should be going after. However, some of this stuff is required while other parts are totally optional. So, depending on what you want to do, you can save yourself a lot of time and effort in this patch.
The first chapter of the next seasonal stories has been introduced in patch 10.1.7. When you first log in, you should get a prompt to visit Shandris Feathermoon in Valdrakken. The quest is called A Sentinel Summit. The primalists are making their move, and they’ve recruited some fiery friends to their cause, all in an effort to break into the Emerald Dream to try and find our precious new world tree. But not everyone on the primalist side agrees with Forex methods, giving us an opportunity to bring an unlikely Ally to our side. The story content is nice and sets the stage for what will happen in patch 10.2.
Another set of story quests was introduced with this patch that deals with the bronze dragonfly in their relationship with the infinite dragonflight. This quest line was really interesting and opens up the potential for some interesting story options later on to do with these two factions. At the top of the seat of the aspects, you should be able to find Chromie, who has a quest for you. So, if you talk to Chromie, they’ll ask you to sit in on a little discussion between Nozdormu and a familiar infinite Dragon Eternus. Just a nice peaceful chat between sworn enemies, what could go wrong? That’s why Chromie wants us to tag along, just in case. If Nozdormu and the infinite dragonfly see eye to eye, you’ll have to find out by working away through these new story quests.
Dream Surge event is another new addition to this patch. This event is really simple, and one of the four dragon isle zones experiences the dream surge per week. While the event is active, you can hop on over to the dream search icon on the map and find Hamuul Runetotem. He has two weekly quests for you, one that rewards you with a dream surge Chrysalis and the other one is going to reward you with a boa box of 402 gear. The Chrysalis is super important because you can use them to buy 415 gear or wyrm crests from Rune totem. This gives you an easy way to get pieces of gear you need at higher item levels. However, these tokens are currently limited to just one per week, so they are quite restricted. The other vendor has item level 402 bind on account gear tokens, and this is where the majority of your catch-up gear is going to come from. Each piece costs 100 dream surge coalescence, and this stuff is super easy to come.
First Steps in Patch 10.1.7 Dragonflight
When you first log in to Patch 10.1.7, you should start with the first chapter of the next seasonal stories. You will get a prompt to visit Shandris Feathermoon in Valdrakken for the quest “A Sentinel Summit.” This quest sets the stage for what will happen in Patch 10.2 and is required to move on to Zaraleck Cavern’s story.
Another set of story quests was introduced with this patch that deals with the bronze dragonfly in their relationship with the infinite dragonflight. You can find Chromie in the Seat of the Aspects, who has a quest for you to sit in on a little discussion between Nozdormu and a familiar infinite Dragon Eternus. You’ll get sand timer hourglass shoulder transmogs after completing this story section with Nozdormu and the infinite dragonfly.
After completing the Chromie quest line, you can move on to Tear Hole to continue with the reforging of Tyr storyline. This patch introduces part 3 where you go hunting for the last discs of Tyr to try and restore him properly. This quest is locked behind Valdrakken renowned tiers, so if you haven’t completed those quests, you won’t be able to see or complete this quest.
There’s also a small storyline that deals with the remnants of the Sun-Died Flame and how the Drakthea are processing the death of Sarkareth. You can find the start of that quest in Valdrakken on the West Side called “A Single Wing.”
Apart from story quests, you should also check out the new Dream Surge event, especially if you have some characters you want to gear up. This event is really simple, and one of the four dragon isle zones experiences the Dream Surge per week. You can hop on over to the Dream Surge icon on the map and find Hamuul Runetotem, who has two weekly quests for you. One rewards you with a Dream Surge Chrysalis, and the other rewards you with a BoA box of 402 gear.
The Chrysalis is essential because you can use them to buy 415 gear or wyrm crests from Rune totem. You can buy whatever you want, but wyrm crests are harder to get and are needed to upgrade your gear to 437. The other vendor has item level 402 bind on account gear tokens, and each piece costs 100 Dream Surge coalescence.
Story Content
Patch 10.1.7 introduces new outdoor world content, several new storylines, and special events. There are some quests that you should prioritize and specific rewards to go after. The first chapter of the next seasonal stories is introduced in this patch. The quest is called “A Sentinel Summit,” and it is located in Valdrakken. Completing this chapter is essential if you want to move on to Zaraleck Cavern buttons in patch 10.2.
Another set of story quests was introduced with this patch that deals with the bronze dragonfly in their relationship with the infinite dragonflight. This quest line was interesting and opens up potential for some story options later on. Completing this quest line will reward you with sand timer hourglass shoulder transmogs.
After completing the story section with Nozdormu and the infinite dragonfly, another quest should pop up in Valdrakken that will lead you to Tyr Hold to continue with the reforging of Tyr storyline. This patch introduces part 3, where you go hunting for the last discs of Tyr to restore him properly. This quest requires you to complete the Chromie quest line and the previous quest lines involving Tyr and his reforging process.
There is also a small storyline that deals with the remnants of the Sun-dried Flame and how the Drakthyr are processing the death of Sarkareth. You can find the start of that quest in Valdrakken.
Aside from the story quests, there is also the new Dream Surge event, which is an easy way to gear up your characters. This event rotates through the four dragon isle zones, and each week, you can complete two weekly quests that reward you with a dream surge Chrysalis and a box of 402 gear. You can use the Chrysalis to buy 415 gear or wyrm crests from Rune Totem. The wyrm crests are harder to get, and they are needed to upgrade your gear to 437.
Overall, completing the main story campaign and the story quests introduced in this patch is essential if you want to move on to the next season and the next big chapter of Dragonfly in patch 10.2.
Sentinel Summit Quest
When you first log in to Patch 10.1.7, you will receive a prompt to visit Shandris Feathermoon in Valdrakken to start the first chapter of the next seasonal story. The quest is called “Sentinel Summit” and it sets the stage for what will happen in Patch 10.2. The primalists are making their move and they’ve recruited some fiery friends to their cause, all in an effort to break into the Emerald Dream to try and find the new world tree. However, not everyone on the primalist side agrees with Forex methods, giving you an opportunity to bring an unlikely ally to your side.
The story content is nice and it’s more important than just giving us an early look. In Patch 10.1, the first chapter was still required if you wanted to move on to Zaraleck Cavern buttons. In Patch 10.1.7, this is going to be chapter 0 of 1 or 1 of 1 when you finish it for the Emerald Dream story. If you want to jump into the new content when Patch 10.2 hits, you’ll want to get this chapter done before then. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck running these quests in 10.2 while everyone else is delving into the Emerald Dream or wherever it is that we’re going next.
There are also a couple of other story quests introduced with this patch. One deals with the bronze dragonfly and their relationship with the infinite dragonflight. You should be able to find Chromie who has a quest for you. The other storyline deals with the remnants of the Sun did Flame and how the Drakthea are processing the death of Sarkareth. You can find the start of that quest in Valdrakken over on the West Side.
In addition to the story quests, you’ll also want to check out the new Dream Surge event, especially if you have some characters you want to gear up. The event is really simple – one of the four dragon isle zones experiences the Dream Surge per week. While the event is active, you can hop on over to the Dream Surge icon on the map and find Hamuul Runetotem. He has two weekly quests for you – one that rewards you with a Dream Surge Chrysalis and the other one is going to reward you with a BoA box of 402 gear.
The Chrysalis is super important because you can use them to buy 415 gear or wyrm crests from Rune totem. This gives you an easy way to get pieces of gear you need at higher item levels. However, these tokens are currently limited to just one per week. The wyrm crests are harder to get and are needed to upgrade your gear to 437, so they are more worthwhile if you’re wanting to maximize your gearing potential. The other vendor has item level 402 bind on account gear tokens, and this is where the majority of your catch-up gear is going to come from. Each piece costs 100 Dream Surge coalescence and this stuff is super easy to come by.
Bronze Dragonflight and Infinite Dragonflight Quest
In patch 10.1.7, there are several new storylines to explore, including one that deals with the Bronze Dragonflight and their relationship with the Infinite Dragonflight. This quest line opens up the potential for some interesting story options later on to do with these two factions.
To start this quest, head to the Seat of the Aspects and find Chromie, who has a quest for you. Chromie will ask you to sit in on a little discussion between Nozdormu and a familiar Infinite Dragon, Eternus. This is a nice peaceful chat between sworn enemies, and Chromie wants you to tag along just in case.
As you work your way through these new story quests, you’ll get to know more about the Bronze Dragonflight and their relationship with the Infinite Dragonflight. At the very end, you’ll get these really cool sand timer hourglass shoulder transmogs – one in the bronze color and one in the infinite colors. If you love unique transmog, there’s one more reason to get these quests done.
After you’ve completed this story section with Nozdormu and the Infinite Dragonflight, another Quest should pop up in Valdrakken that takes you over to Tear Hole to continue with the reforging of Tyr storyline. This patch introduces part 3 where we go hunting for the last discs of Tyr to try and restore him properly.
These quests are not required for the main story campaign introduced in this patch, but they are still required for some of the other side story quests.
So, if you are interested in exploring new storylines and getting unique transmogs, head to the Seat of the Aspects and start the Bronze Dragonflight and Infinite Dragonflight Quest.
Reforging of Tyr Quest
In patch 10.1.7, there are several new storylines to work through, and one of the most important ones is the Reforging of Tyr storyline. This storyline has three parts, and the third part is introduced in this patch. To start this questline, you need to have completed the previous quest lines involving Tyr and his reforging process, which are locked behind Valdrakken renowned tiers. If you haven’t done those quests, you won’t be able to see or complete this quest just yet.
The Reforging of Tyr storyline requires you to hunt for the last discs of Tyr to try and restore him properly. This quest is called “A Single Wing” and can be found in Valdrakken on the West Side. If you’re interested in how the Drakthea story is progressing, you should get this quest done as well.
While these quests are not required for the main story campaign introduced in this patch, they are still required for some of the other side story quests. So, if you want to experience all the new content that patch 10.1.7 has to offer, you should complete the Reforging of Tyr storyline.
Remnants of the Sun Did Flame Quest
In patch 10.1.7, there is a small storyline that deals with the remnants of the Sun Did Flame and how the Drakthea are processing the death of Sarkareth. You can find the start of that quest in Valdrakken over on the west side. The quest does show up on the map and it’s called “A Single Wing.” If you’re interested in how the Drakthea story is progressing, get those quests done as well.
Dream Surge Event
In Patch 10.1.7, a new event called Dream Surge has been introduced. This event occurs in one of the four dragon isle zones each week, and this week it is in the Waking Shore. To participate in the event, you can find Hamuul Runetotem by clicking on the Dream Surge icon on the map. Hamill has two weekly quests for you, one that rewards you with a Dream Surge Chrysalis and the other that rewards you with a BoA box of 402 gear.
The Dream Surge Chrysalis is crucial because you can use it to buy 415 gear or wyrm crests from Rune totem. This allows you to get the gear you need at higher item levels easily. However, these tokens are currently limited to just one per week, so they are quite restricted. Personally, I think we should have been able to get more than one per week, as the point of a catch-up patch is to get caught up.
The BoA box of 402 gear tokens is where the majority of your catch-up gear will come from. Each piece costs 100 Dream Surge coalescence, which is easy to come by. It’s important to note that this gear is bind on account, which means you can send it to your alts.
While getting quick 415 gear of your choice is definitely nice, these events also give you easy access to wyrm crests to upgrade your gear further. I would look more towards the wyrm crests if you’re wanting to maximize your gearing potential here.
Overall, the Dream Surge event is a great way to gear up your characters and catch up on gear upgrades.
Gear Up Options
In patch 10.1.7, there are several new ways to gear up and level up your character. Here are some options to consider:
- Complete the main story campaign: The first chapter of the next seasonal story has been introduced in this patch. It is recommended to complete this chapter before patch 10.2 hits to avoid being stuck running these quests while everyone else is delving into the new content. Additionally, a new set of story quests dealing with the bronze dragonfly and the infinite dragonflight has been introduced. Completing this quest line rewards you with unique sand timer hourglass shoulder transmogs.
- Participate in Dream Surge event: This event rotates weekly through the four dragon isle zones. During the event, you can complete two weekly quests from Hamuul Runetotem that reward you with a dream surge chrysalis and a boa box of 402 gear. The chrysalis can be used to buy 415 gear or wyrm crests from Rune totem. It is recommended to focus on obtaining wyrm crests to upgrade your gear to 437, as these crests are harder to come by.
- Reforge Tyr storyline: Part 3 of this storyline has been introduced in this patch, where you go hunting for the last discs of Tyr to restore him properly. This quest requires you to have completed the previous quest lines involving Tyr and his reforging process and to have the appropriate Valdrakken renowned tiers.
- Complete side story quests: Several side story quests have been introduced in this patch, including one dealing with the remnants of the sun did flame and how the dracthyr are processing the death of Sarkareth. Completing these quests will provide you with additional rewards and gear.
Be sure to prioritize what is important to you and your character’s needs.
New Heritage Armor Sets
In patch 10.1.7, new Heritage Armor Sets have been added for several races. These sets are cosmetic and do not provide any stat bonuses, but they are a great way to show off your pride for your character’s race.
Here are the new Heritage Armor Sets that have been added:
- Nightborne Heritage Armor Set
- Highmountain Tauren Heritage Armor Set
- Lightforged Draenei Heritage Armor Set
- Void Elf Heritage Armor Set
- Mag’har Orc Heritage Armor Set
- Dark Iron Dwarf Heritage Armor Set
To unlock these sets, you must first reach level 50 with a character of the corresponding race. Once you have done so, a quest will become available that will lead you on a journey to discover the history and culture of your character’s race. Completing this questline will reward you with the Heritage Armor Set.
These sets are account-wide, meaning that once you have unlocked them on one character, all characters of the same race on your account will have access to the set.
So if you’re looking to add some flair to your character and show off your love for your race, be sure to unlock these new Heritage Armor Sets in patch 10.1.7.
